Confusion of Babel

The Library of Babel is a difficult read.  The text, while written in correct English syntax, is broken. The narrator makes so many tangents to the point he is trying to make that it is difficult for the reader to understand exactly what he is talking about. I believe this was intended, as it is supposed to give the impression of a touch of madness in the narrator. Its kind of ironic that the text is so jumbled when it is describing a library, which is normally considered ordered.  It wasn’t just the lack of focus in the writing, but also the way the narrator described things. Phrases such as “juggle letters and symbols until they constructed, by an improbable gift of chance, these canonical books” are very difficult to read and understand. It is simply not the way we are used to speaking and reading. In all it was so difficult to read that it was hard to find a definite point or plot to the work which is why I did not enjoy it.
